Breast implant is a surgical procedure to alter the shape and size of the breasts of a woman. It is medically referred to by different names like augmentation, mammoplasty and even boob job in the normal jargon. Such surgeries are taken for cosmetic purposes to do away the congenital deformities of the breast anatomy in females. It is one of the most commonly observed surgeries undertaken in the United States of America. There are primarily two kinds of breast breast implants namely saline filled and silicon gel filled. These surgeries were used as early as 1895 for cosmetic reasons. Since then a lot of materials have been used to augment the size of a woman’s breasts like rubber, cartilage, lipoma, paraffin or women’s own adipose tissues. This surgical procedure can be used for augmentation as well as reconstruction. The operation extends for one to two hours and the recovery can take from weeks to a month time.
